Christian Dailey, who used to be a producer on Dragon Age, left Bioware earlier this year and will now be joining Skeleton Key, a triple-A video game studio created by Wizards of the Coast. He announced this via Twitter, expressing his elation with this new step in his career.

Skeleton Key will operate from Austin, Texas, mainly working for Dungeons & Dragons and Magic: The Gathering publisher. But at the time of writing, it is unclear whether the titles they’re working on are related to either of those franchises.

Since December 2020, Dailey has worked on the upcoming Dragon Age: Dreadwolf as the executive producer, and he had previously worked as the studio director of Bioware Austin and the franchise development director for Anthem.

Future of Skeleton Key

At Skeleton Key, Dailey will be both the vice president and the head of the studio. Talking about this transition, he said that he is:

Skeleton Key has made no official announcements regarding its future titles, but the company is already hiring for senior roles like art, design, and technical directors. But if Skeleton Key is anything like Dragon Age, it will probably do very well.

Wizards of the Coast has founded multiple studios, like Atomic Arcade, which is currently working on a game based on the GI Joe franchise. Tuque Games, developer of Dark Alliance and Archetype Entertainment. Archetype is also based in Austin, Texas, like Skeleton Key. And Archetype Entertainment is also run by former BioWare employees in senior roles.

Wizards of the Coast’s recent titles have been mostly underwhelming, with the exception of Baldur’s Gate 3, which was very successful. Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance was an average game, all things considered. And Magic: Legends was canceled before it even made it out of the gate. Hopefully, future titles will be more promising.
