When you buy Football Manager 2021, there’s a lot to love as is. However, you’ll notice that some logos for clubs around the world will be missing, as well as the player faces for players in certain leagues. Now there’s not an absolute need to fix this issue – in fact, some clubs would prefer it if you didn’t. If you want the best experience possible though, it would be ideal to follow this guide to make the process as easy as possible. It’s actually super easy to change your face/logo packs, and most graphics pack will point the install process out, but here’s how you do it.

All the different types of graphics packs are installed in the same way, so while I’ll use the example of a logo pack, it works the same for player faces and background pictures – just create a folder for each of those types. Skins are slightly different, as they don’t go in the graphics folder, and instead go in the skins folder in the FM21 directory.

Choices to Make for FM21

The first thing you need to work out is what pack you want. There are several good options out there – The Football Manager community is fantastic at this – but once you’ve settled on what you want, download it and save it in your downloads or wherever you want. It’ll likely come in a .zip or a .rar file for you to extract – so just use that 7-Zip or that endless free trial of WinRar to extract them.

The Fabled “Graphics” Folder

This is the crucial bit. You want to be in your documents folder, NOT the Steam folder (or equivalent store service), and find the Sports Interactive folder, then Football Manager 2021. The full path is as follows:

C:\Users\YOURNAME\Documents\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2021

FM21 reads the image data from a specific folder called the graphics folder, but it’s not there when you install the game – you have to make it manually. Select “create new folder”, and name it “graphics”. You shouldn’t have to make subfolders for logos, backgrounds, player faces, etc – most graphics packs will do this automatically, but if you want to be safe and/or organized, you may as well.

Reload That FM21 Cache, Please Sir

The final step comes from booting up FM21 and going into the preferences, finding the interface section, and ticking some important boxes. Perhaps the first one should be the one that says Reload Skin After Changing Setting, that way you can ensure that every time you change something, the game will always check what’s in the graphics folder and apply it. The second should be making sure that Caching is turned off the first time you put new graphic packs in the folder, just to reload the cache when you save your settings and force the game to draw from the graphics folder.

And that should be it for changing face/logo packs in FM21! As with all technology, there can be moments where things don’t work as they should and you don’t see any changes after you’ve done all the steps. In that case, clear the cache and make sure you’ve got everything in the right place. This method has always worked for me, so I can only hope it does the same for you!
