Days after he posted the first pictures of himself in character, footage of Timothée Chalamet on the Wonka set has been leaked and shared all over the internet. And what’s more, it comes with music.

W Magazine reports that Art Doherty found out the film was being filmed ten minutes from his home at a beach in Lyme Regis, England. He recorded the following video of Chalamet on the Wonka set and posted it on his Twitter account:

The footage consists of Chalamet as Wonka on some sort of moving vehicle. Recorded music of Chalamet singing is played with the following lyrics:

“Now it’s time to show the world my recipe. I’ve got twelve silver sovereigns in my pocket and a hat full of dreams.”

In 2018 The Nerd Stash reported that the upcoming Willy Wonka origin film would likely explore Wonka’s disillusionment that lead to the events of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (1971). This footage seems to showcase the early stages, with Wonka still young and optimistic about his dreams. A viewer can’t help but speculate what will lead to his disillusionment.

While many details regarding the plot are still vague, Esquire has reported that the film will show Wonka discovering the chocolate factory and meeting the Oompa Loompas. The film will also feature song and dance, which this footage has given us a taste of.

Chalamet was cast as Wonka in May. He posted the first pictures of himself as Willy Wonka on his Instagram on Sunday. Matt Lucas, Rowan Atkinson, Keegan-Michael Key, and Olivia Colman will also have parts in the film, though their roles have not been specified.

Wonka is expected to be released on March 17, 2023.

We want to hear from you. What are your thoughts about this footage? Does Timothée Chalamet have serious vocal chops? What parts of Willy Wonka’s past do you want this film to showcase?
