Square Enix’s upcoming mobile JRPG Gate of Nightmares gets five new trailers showcasing more of its playable cast. Those with an eye for manga art will be able to recognize Hiro Mashima’s style here, the mangaka behind the ‘shounen’ hit Fairy Tail. Hiro Mashima has collaborated with Square Enix for the game’s art and world. The new trailers showcase the following characters: Euphoria, Segerpop, Cider, Varcelio, and Tom.

A couple of trailers have been previously released for some other characters, which indicates that Square Enix is more than intent on marketing the game heavily. Gate of Nightmares was first announced as an iOS and Android title, with no plans for a PC or console release as of yet. The popularity of mobile games in the Asian market isn’t really breaking news.

The game’s scenario is handled by Jin Fujisawa, the writer behind the storylines of Dragon Quest VIII, IX, and X. The game’s soundtrack is composed by Yasuharu Takanashi, who’s also worked on popular anime such as Fairy Tail and Naruto.

Already released gameplay footage suggests similarities with the Tales Of series: an action RPG with an emphasis on spells and combos, in small arenas. Gate of Nightmares seems to offer variety in terms of characters, with a large ensemble already been shown off – each with its own design, traits, and abilities.

Gate of Nightmares Trailers: No Plans For a Western Release Yet

There’s still a heavy dose of mystery surrounding Gate of Nightmares: particularly, the lack of a release date. While it’s still unknown when the game is set to release, the JRPG is only planned to come out in Japan. Square Enix hasn’t mentioned anything regarding Western localization. However, considering the Japanese publisher’s mobile titles have slowly been ported over to the West, there’s a good chance Square Enix’s Gate of Nightmares will eventually receive similar treatment.

For now, we’ll need to remain hopeful… And patient.
