Marvel Studios has officially released the teaser trailer and poster for Doctor Strange 2, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Set to be released on May 6, 2022, the film will serve as a follow up to the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home and will follow the titular Doctor Strange as he dives into the dangers of the Multiverse with his trusted friend and Sorcerer Supreme, Wong, (Benedict Wong) and with the help of the Scarlet witch, Wanda Maximoff.

The Doctor Strange: In the Multiverse of Madness trailer originally could be seen during the end credits of Spider-Man: No Way Home as a sort of tease for what was to come, and has now officially been released by Marvel. The trailer footage begins with the new Sorcerer Supreme, Wong, warning Strange of the dangers info led in casting the same spell he uttered in No Way Home, which has since been leading to a series of incidents around the world. An alternate version of Dr. Strange himself also appears in the trailer mostly like the same, evil Strange variant that appeared in the Disney Plus animated series Marvel’s What If…?, where he was an enemy of Doctor Strange.

Additionally, it has been reported that director Sam Raimi will be replacing Scott Derrickson for the sequel, while Loki screenwriter Michael Waldron will help pen the script.

“I didn’t know that I could face it again because it was so awful, having been the director of Spider-Man 3. The Internet was getting revved up and people disliked that movie and they sure let me know about it. So, it was difficult to take back on. But then, I found out that there was an opening on Doctor Strange 2. My agent called me and said, ‘They’re looking for a director at Marvel for this movie and your name came up. Would you be interested?’ And I thought, ‘I wonder if I could still do it.’ They’re really demanding, those types of pictures. And I felt, ‘Well, that’s reason enough.’”, Raimi explained when asked about how he came to the role.
