Wright Film and TMS Entertainment released the first teaser for the upcoming animated series project, Lupin Zero. Presented as a prequel to the iconic Lupin the Third franchise, the series will focus on a young Lupin and tell the story of his boyhood. An official website for the series has also been launched.

Every Story Has a Beginning: What to Expect from Lupin Zero

As seen in the teaser, Lupin Zero is an upcoming six-episode anime series that Wright Film and TMS Entertainment are developing and will begin streaming in December. According to the translated Japanese press release, the series will have Lupin Zero is also expected to be announced then, as they were not shown in the trailer.

At this time, we know that Daisuke Sako, the former chief animation director for Lupin the Third: Part 5 and Lupin III Italian Game, will be returning to direct the anime, which will be animated by Telecom Animation Film. The studio is also famous for having animated other popular anime series, including Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion, Sk8 the Infinity, Valvrave the Liberator, and many more.

In addition, Asami Taguchi, who also worked on Lupin III Italian Game, will be on character design, and Yoshihide Otomo of INU-OH fame will be the composer.

The series will take place in 1960 and focus on the titular Lupin III as a young boy during his first adventure. The series will be an official animated prequel to the franchise, which began serialization in 1967 and was first adapted into animation through the 23-episode anime series in 1971.

The series will combine both stories from the original 1967 manga into one to tell a cohesive origin story for the character. More information is expected to be shared at Anime NYC.
