Hangar 13 President and Chief Creative Officer Haden Blackman narrates the gameplay reveal and details the specific mission the video takes place during. Mafia: Definitive Edition is set the release Sept. 25. Publisher 2K Games promises the remake is being built from the ground up and will feature an updated script with more thoroughly developed backstories and new cutscenes. Some areas of the game’s city have even been redesigned, but, worry not, as all the original landmarks remain intact.

Motion capture has been implemented into all cutscenes, with new scenes and dialogue added to further flesh out conflicts and characters. “Knowing the importance of both gunplay and driving to the Mafia franchise, we redesigned all of the core gameplay throughout the game while keeping all the missions, major mission beats and underlying narrative intact,” Blackman says in the video.

While Mafia: Definitive Edition can be purchased on its own, it will also be available digitally as a part of the Mafia: Trilogy. This trilogy will also include Mafia II: Definitive Edition and Mafia III: Definitive Edition, which released earlier this year. Mafia: Trilogy is available to purchase now on Steam, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4, and Mafia: Remastered will be available to download on Sept. 25, 2020.

The original Mafia released in 2002 on PlayStation 2 and Xbox. It was announced last month that the upcoming Definitive Edition was delayed to its current release date. Last month Hangar 13 also released the first trailer for the game, with a focus on narrative.
