Roku has released a promotional pic for Weird: The Al Yankovic Story, giving us our first look at Daniel Radcliffe as “Weird Al” Yankovic. The image features the former Harry Potter star sporting an afro wig, glasses, a mustache, and a Hawaiian shirt while playing a piano accordion. Radcliffe told People Magazine, “Wearing the Hawaiian shirt is a huge responsibility that I don’t take lightly, and I’m honored to finally share with the world the absolutely 100 percent unassailably true story of Weird Al’s depraved and scandalous life.” While this is our first look at Radcliffe in character, he was also spotted in his “Weird Al” attire in a picture from the set on Sunday, which can be seen below:
TMZ has shared other images from the set, including images where he appears to be getting tips from “Weird Al” Yankovic himself. Yankovic said last month that he is “absolutely thrilled” that Radcliffe is portraying him in the movie, adding that “this is the role future generations will remember him for.”
A press release says, “The biopic holds nothing back, exploring every facet of Yankovic’s life, from his meteoric rise to fame with early hits like ‘Eat It’ and ‘Like a Surgeon’ to his torrid celebrity love affairs and famously depraved lifestyle.”
It was announced in January that Radcliffe would be portraying the legendary singer, known for his comedic songs that are often parodies of pop songs. This is Roku’s first biopic, and it is being directed by Eric Appel who wrote the script with Yankovic. Funny Or Die and Tango are producing the film. There is no release date set for Weird: The Al Yankovic Story. It will stream exclusively on Roku upon release.
