Live-Action Pinocchio Teaser Trailer Premiere and Details

The first look at the live-action remake of Disney’s Pinocchio was revealed earlier today in a short teaser trailer, with the full trailer premiering tomorrow on Good Morning America. While it did not look at what Pinnicho himself will look like in the film, it did provide a look at the live-action version of Jiminy Cricket and Blue Fairy. The Blue Fairy will be played by two-time Oscar nominee Cynthia Erivo, who will also be singing her rendition of Cliff Edwards’ piece “When You Wish Upon A Star,” used for the original Pinnichio animated film in 1940.

Tom Hanks will be leading the cast of the live-action Pinocchio remake and portraying the young puppet’s creator, Geppetto, with Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as the voice of Pinocchio, Luke Evans as The Coachman, Joseph Gordon-Levitt as the voice of Jiminy Cricket, and support roles by Keegan-Michael Key and Lorraine Bracco. While the film was first announced in 2015, it languished for nearly five years as several writers and directors came and went on the project, including Paddington‘s Paul King, before Robert Zemeckis signed on to co-write and direct.

The original film from 1940 was based on the 1883 Italian book of the same name by author Carlo Collodi, revolving around the titular wooden puppet that comes to life thanks to the powers of The Blue Fairy and aspires to become a real boy by remaining truthful. As he strives for this, he will encounter a variety of troublesome characters and learn that his nose grows every time he lies.
