The Waylanders is a brand new RPG from some of the creative minds behind Dragon Age, Fallout, and Pillars of Eternity. Developed and published by Gato Studio, the game successfully reached their goal on Kickstarter in 2018 and will revolve heavily around Celtic gods and the Medieval period.
A number of new details were released at this year’s Gamescom including The Waylanders first trailer, with voice over by Simon Templeman, and new footage showcasing more than five minutes of gameplay.
The game is inspired by other fantasy works of art such as the Baldur’s Gate video game series and the pen and paper version of Dungeons and Dragons as well. The story is being written by former Telltale writer Emily Grace Buck, who also wrote The Walking Dead: The Final Season; comic book and gaming writer Chris Avellone, writer for Fallout 2 and Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords; and the former creative director for the Dragon Age series, Mike Laidlaw.
One of the other big announcements revealed at the convention was the introduction of three times BAFTA nominated composer Inon Zur, who wrote the music for Fallout and Elder Scrolls Blades.
The Waylanders will also have multiple endings focused on the choices made by the player during the game. Players will also be able to choose between six basic and 30 advanced character classes with five playable races based on Celtic lore and history.
While The Waylands does not have a concrete release date as of yet, it will be available for PC sometime in 2020.
