HBO Max has released the first full trailer for its upcoming animated original series, Velma, meant to be a more adult-oriented entry in the Scooby-Doo franchise. The series will officially begin streaming on January 12, 2023.
Velma Gets Framed for Murder in the First Full Trailer of HBO Max’s New Series
The first teaser trailer for HBO Max’s Velma debuted back in December 2022 as an adult-oriented take on the iconic Scooby-Doo franchise. The series centers around the titular character, Velma, known for being the brains behind Mystery Incorporated, in her high school days before the official formation of the group.
Velma is developed for HBO Max by Charlie Grandy, known for his work on Saturday Night Live! and The Office, and stars producer Mindy Kaling as the voice of Velma. Sam Richardson, Constance Wu and Glenn Howerton each take on supporting voice roles as Norville (Shaggy), Daphne and Fred, respectively.
The synopsis reads:
VELMA is an adult animated comedy series telling the origin story of Velma Dinkley, the unsung and under-appreciated brains of the Scooby-Doo Mystery Inc. gang. This original and humorous spin unmasks the complex and colorful past of one of America’s most beloved mystery solvers.
The story begins when Velma finds the corpse of a popular high school in her locker and, to avoid being blamed for the murder, decides to use her detective skills and knowledge to investigate and catch the real killer.
She teams up with the attractive and popular Daphne (Constance Wu), the shallow but attractive Fred (Glenn Howerton), and her good friend Norville, aka Shaggy (Sam Richardson), to solve this mystery before time runs out.
Velma will officially be airing on HBO Max on January 12, 2023, with the first two episodes. From there, two episodes will be released each week on the platform until February 9, 2023, for a total of ten episodes.
