The highly-anticipated Halo 4 web-series, Forward Unto Dawn, was previewed today at Comic-Con, and the exclusive trailer is now available for the masses which we’ve embedded for your viewing pleasure below.
For those still aloof, Forward Unto Dawn will tell an original story about Master Chief and how he inspired a young UNSC cadet who will eventually become a leader aboard the UNSC Infinity. This new character will reportedly tie in with the plot of Halo 4 and will also provide a flashback to the beginning of the war between mankind and the Covenant. Set to launch October 5th, the series will play out over five weekly installments, each said to be around 15 minutes each. The segments will then be collected, along with 15 minutes of additional footage, and edited together into a 90-minute feature film.
A recent report from the LA Times noted that Microsoft has spent between $5 million and $10 million on the production of this Halo 4 live-action series. Who knew it would take seven figures to bring Master Chief into the real world? Speaking of Spartan-117, the moment you’ve all been waiting for comes around the 2:15 mark of the new trailer. If you’re beside yourself with anger and outrage that it is not Steve Downes providing the voice for the Chief, remember that the events of Forward Unto Dawn take place before the first Covenant attack, so Downes’ iconic and deeply toned voicework may not have been appropriate given the context.
Watch the new Forward Unto Dawn trailer below. Am I the only one who thinks not showing the Covenant was a smoke-and-mirrors tactic to try and conceal the fact that the alien forces are going to look incredibly cheesy? Here’s hoping their omission was to build up the anticipation.
