In today’s Nintendo Switch livestream, Nintendo revealed several titles coming to the platform. One surprising reveal was that of a new collaboration game between Koei Tecmo and Nintendo — Fire Emblem Warriors.
That’s right, it looks like the turn-based strategy series is getting the Hyrule Warriors treatment and getting their own hack-and-slash action game. While the Warriors games were never known for their depth or complexity, it is still a popular franchise that appeals to those that just want to stop thinking, mash buttons, and wrack up kill counts numbering into the hundreds.
The teaser trailer doesn’t reveal much, it didn’t have any gameplay footage or any real narration. It does tease several characters by showing off parts of intricate weapons, most of which aren’t too easy to recognize due to the small amount of each they show.
Some dedicated fans have already made guesses on what the weapon are and, more importantly, who they represent. Many seem to think that Marth from Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and Blade of Light as well as Ryoma, Xander, and Corrin from Fire Emblem Fates are those represented by the weapons. However, the end of the video does more or less confirm one character for the game — none other than the prince of Ylisse, Chrom from Fire Emblem Awakening.
Considering the often large cast of characters Koei Tecmo’s Warriors games have, it won’t be surprising if each game in the over 20 year old franchise has a representative in the upcoming title, especially the more recent ones that exploded in popularity for the 3DS. No word as of now on any official release date.
