Billy Bryk (When You Finish Saving the World) and Finn Wolfhard make their feature directorial debut based on their original script for a horror-comedy titled Hell of a Summer. The film will star Fred Hechinger (The White Lotus).
Plot details are under wraps. The film’s star will produce Aggregate Films’ Jason Bateman and Michael Costigan, and Parts and Labor’s Jay Van Hoy. 30 West is financing and executive producing the directorial debut of Finn Wolfhard and his co-director. CAA Media Finance co-reps global rights. Production begins this month in Ontario, Canada.
The film goes into a slate of horror and thriller films that it has in the can. Currently, the studio has in the works a thriller titled Day Drinker by Marc Webb. It will also release The Crow remake with Rupert Sanders directing and Bill Skarsgård starring.
Billy Bryk and Finn Wolfhard Directorial Debut to be a Horror-comedy
The directorial debut of Finn Wolfhard being in the underworld of horror makes sense with his history with the genre. He is best known for his role as Mike Wheeler in Stranger Things, which ended its biggest season yet and will kick off the writing process for the final outing in August. He returned to the genre on the big screen with both It movies, which grossed over $1.2 billion worldwide. On a lighter side with some horror elements, he was in last year’s Ghostbusters: Afterlife. While his directorial debut was the short film Night Shifts, Hell of a Summer will mark his first time helming a feature-length film.
Co-directing with Finn Wolfhard is Billy Bryk. He is best known for working with the Stranger Things star in Ghostbusters: Afterlife and Jesse Eisenberg’s When You Finish Saving the World.
The White Lotus actor leading the film is also known for Pam & Tommy, The Woman in the Window, News of the World, and Eighth Grade.
