While the contents of Final Fantasy XIV‘s patch releases are far from disappointing, server connection issues and launcher update errors during these updates are not something new to the community. Of course, it is borderline impossible to pander to every player’s PC hardware, internet speed, or other characteristics that might cause these problems. However, it still can be a pain as many of these issues do not exist for players until after the release of the patch, meaning something in the update caused their inconvenience. Fortunately, there are a few solutions that Warriors of Light can try to fix the launcher update error in Final Fantasy XIV.

Fixing The Launcher Update Error In Final Fantasy XIV

To fix the launcher update error in Final Fantasy XIV, players are first encouraged to ensure their antivirus software or their firewall are not preventing the game from launching. Oftentimes, a new update introduces several new files that be mistaken by one’s system for malware. Accordingly, make sure the game’s files are an exception for these security programs.

According to QMGames, another way to fix the launcher update error in Final Fantasy XIV is by running the executable or “exe” file as an administrator. This action can be done by browsing the game’s folder, right-clicking on the exe file, and choosing “Run as Administrator” in the drop-down menu. If the player would like the game to always run with admin privileges, they can open the Properties of the file and select Advanced, where a checkbox for toggling “Run as Administrator” can be found.

Disabling Direct X 11 is also a potential solution for resolving this launcher issue in Final Fantasy XIV. After opening the launcher, select Config to see the option for toggling Direct X 11. Alternatively, the player might need to download and install the latest update of Direct X 11 for their system.

If none of the three methods above work to resolve the problem, Final Fantasy XIV fans might have to perform the last resort option of uninstalling and reinstalling the game. This action is incredibly cumbersome, especially for those with slow internet speed. Therefore, players are advised to only decide on this method if everything they have tried fails to fix the launcher update problem in Final Fantasy XIV.

Final Fantasy XIV is available on PC, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.
