Final Fantasy XIV has had its busiest month to date. So much so that Square Enix was forced to suspend sales. This was in the wake of the Endwalker expansion, which dropped on the week of December 3. With Blizzard’s controversy last year still affecting World of Warcraft, FFXIV became the new MMORPG of choice. What was once an unsuccessful game has earned a lot of polish and praise in the last few expansions. And with the highly-anticipated Endwalker expansion coming at the same time, the Chocobo droppings hit the fan. Thankfully, after just about a month of suspension, Final Fantasy XIV has announced that they will return to full services in the next few weeks.
One Expansion Almost Spelled the End of Eorzea
Funnily enough, the raging success of FFXIV‘s Endwalker expansion almost spelled its doom. The Endwalker storyline focuses on the finale of the main storyline that has been developing since A Realm Reborn. Any who’ve played the game past level 10 have experienced the struggle between the Ascians and the Warrior of Light. With Endwalker, Square Enix plans to finish the job. Of course, due to the excitement (combined with winter break), the servers just couldn’t take it after the original release. Due to server clogs, some days in the past month have seen queues that can last hours on end. Thankfully, the sales stop seems to have given them some breathing room.
Final Fantasy XIV Full Services and More
Recently, Final Fantasy XIV devs announced that they are planning a return to full services on January 25. With this, that means sales will resume for both physical and digital copies. Further, a new Data Center for the Oceania region is launching the same day with 5 new worlds. Data Center expansions are expected for Japan, North America, and Europe within the next eight months as well. Overall, it seems twenty new world servers will be added in the next eighteen months! Once again, Final Fantasy XIV has proved that they can do things right if given the time.
