Square Enix has announced today that Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age, the revision of the classic PS2 title for PS4 with several additional features has crossed 1 million in shipments and digital sales combined. This is an important milestone for the project, which seeked to reintroduce the classic RPG to a new generation of gamers. To celebrate the occasion, the company has released a brand new illustration (pictured above) created by Isamu Kamikokuryo and a reworked version of the original video demo loop which was used in the original version’s main menu.

The Zodiac Age adds plenty of features never seen in Western markets, as well as other that have been specifically created for this PS4 version. Some of them include a new job system designating the skills of each character, a fully re-recorded soundtrack, the ability to speed up the game, and to take direct controls of summon spirits and guest characters. We gave the game an excellent review, describing it as “the shining example of how remasters should be — improving the game in multiple aspects while keeping the core gameplay intact.”

The good news don’t really come as a surprise, as the game already topped the United Kingdom and Japan charts in its debut. In light of this renewed interest on the Ivalice universe Square Enix has also launched a new raid called Return to Ivalice for Final Fantasy XIV and written by Final Fantasy Tactics creator Yasumi Matsuno.
