Some of the upcoming Final Fantasy ports now have release dates.
Last year, during Nintendo’s September 2018 Direct, they revealed that a ton of both mainline and spin-off Final Fantasy games would be coming to the Switch sometime between the announcement and the end of 2019. It was later revealed that many of these previously PlayStation-exclusive games would be coming to Xbox One as well, and now we have dates for some of them.
In a recent press release, Square Enix announced that Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster will be coming to the Switch and Xbox One on April 16 and Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age will release on the consoles on April 30. The X/X-2 HD Remaster includes the remastered versions of X and its sequel X-2 (for those who are unaware, each entry in the Final Fantasy series is a self-contained story, except when individual installments have their own sequels, as is the case here), while The Zodiac Age is a remaster of XII.
These new ports, and the ones to come, are kind of a big deal since, despite the fact that the series got its start on Nintendo consoles, mainline Final Fantasy has been a largely PlayStation exclusive series since VII released in 1997. Some games made their way to Xbox, but no main series game has been on a Nintendo console since VI in 1994.
