Lines up with prior rumors.

Final Fantasy VII Remake is only a few months away after first being announced at E3 2015 during the PlayStation conference. While not outright stated as an exclusive, the game had only been announced for PS4 this whole time, despite rumors of it coming to other platforms. The game is still only announced for PS4, but now the new US box art for the game has revealed that Final Fantasy VII Remake is merely a timed exclusive to PlayStation.

The US box art for Final Fantasy VII remake was updated on the official Square Enix press site, which looked the same as the one shown off a few months ago except for one little thing. If you look at the bottom right of the box art, which was provided by Wario64 on Twitter, you’ll see text that states PlayStation Exclusive, Play First on PS4,” with “Timed exclusive until 3/3/21” right under it.

March 3, 2020 is the release date for Final Fantasy VII Remake on PS4, so this means that the game has a true one year timed exclusivity. That is referring to other platforms like Xbox One or PC though, with the Nintendo Switch pretty unlikely considering the power required to run this game. Having it come to the PS5 earlier than that, perhaps as a launch title, would be possible though. However, the fact the PS5 will be backwards compatible might prevent this one from getting a PS5 version that soon.
