The first demo for the highly-anticipated Final Fantasy VII Remake is now available to play, Square Enix confirmed today.
The demo, whose intro was leaked last December, will allow players to experience the first chapter of the game, which fans will remember as the Mako Reactor 1 bombing mission.
Players who download the demo before May 11 will also receive an exclusive PlayStation theme when the game launches next month.
In case you have joined the Final Fantasy saga only later and have not played the first few installments of the franchise, Final Fantasy VII follows the adventure of Cloud Strife, a former member of Shinra’s elite SOLDIER unit who has now turned mercenary.
In a world where the Shinra Electric Power Company controls the planet’s very life force, Cloud decides to join a rebel force called Avalanche to free the world from Shinra’s evil dominion.
Final Fantasy VII is set in the futuristic city of Midgar, and as most Final Fantasy games, is a standalone experience.
Coming 23 years after the original title, the RPG game combines real-time action with other strategic elements.
Apart from the obvious graphical enhancements that push the PS4 hardware to its limits, Final Fantasy VII Remake features a completely re-designed fighting system, expanded plot narrative, and a full voice cast.
The game will be released in episodes, with each one being a “fully standalone gaming experience,” according to Kitase. At the time of writing, Square Enix said they do not know how many episodes will be necessary to tell the full story. What we know so far is that the first one will focus solely on the events in Midgar.
After a painful delay that left fans heartbroken in January, Final Fantasy VII Remake will be finally available as a PS4 exclusive on April 10, 2020.
Square Enix is offering several different editions of the game, many of which will come with additional content if pre-ordered.
