If you were expecting to play Final Fantasy VII Remake on another platform besides the PlayStation 4 this spring, you might want to take a seat.
Square Enix confirmed that the revisioned role-playing adventure would be exclusive to the PlayStation 4. And apparently, that exclusivity will hold through March 31, 2021.
This announcement comes via the reveal of the official box art for the game, which was revealed by the publisher this evening. The PlayStation official Exclusive stamp confirms the date.
For those that remember history, this may not be a complete shock. When the game came out during the Playstation press conference at E3 2015, it noted that the game would be a timed exclusive. But little did we realize how long it would be exclusive until the cover art surfaced.
That means we won’t see Remake on other systems until at least sometime in April 2021. But it’s not a total loss, as the original Final Fantasy VII is available for other platforms, including Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch.
More information about this exclusivity should be coming along as Final Fantasy VII Remake gets closer to its March 3, 2020 release date. Both Square Enix and Sony are likely to tout the game’s exclusivity to the PlayStation 4 platform, in an attempt to build up its hype.
