Tetsuya Nomura has seen his media presence increase in the last week thanks to the release of the new Kingdom Hearts 3 trailer. In one of these interviews, Weekly Famitsu took the opportunity to ask him on an update on Final Fantasy VII Remake, as Nomura acts as a director on both titles. The answer that he gave is as underwhelming as reasonable, as the game is not going to show any new footage for a while, due to the fact that the project has just switched to full internal production.

Nomura was referencing the news that we got back in May that Square Enix was assuming the full development of the game, taking over the segments that were being worked on by other companies like CyberConnect2. That is probably the reason why Nomura says that the progress of Final Fantasy VII Remake is actually more advanced than Kingdom Hearts 3’s in certain aspects like cutscenes, which seems to indicate that up until now Square Enix’s team was mostly focused on the story, letting other studios to work on the actual gameplay.

Moreover, Nomura explained that there are certain Business Divisions working on the game, each with their own team leader, like Naoki Hamaguchi, project leader of the mobile game Mobius Final Fantasy, and head of the Business Division 1. Nomura himself doesn’t belong specifically to any of these units alone, which allows him to work simultaneously in other projects like Kingdom Hearts 3 and the designs the made for Monolith Soft’s Xenoblade Chronicles 2, as by request of his mentor and Xenoblade’s character designer Tetsuya Takahashi.

Final Fantasy VII Remake is in development for PS4.
