Learn how to take and how to defend against free kicks on FIFA 22.
On FIFA 22, players have the chance to show all of their skill on the pitch by making magnificent free kicks, which could only be made in real life by stars such as Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. With that said, we will now tell you how to take free kicks on FIFA 22 as well as how to defend against them, so that you can make sure to always be on the right side of a highlight reel.
How to Take Free Kicks in FIFA 22
First, to be able to take well-made free kicks in FIFA 22, you need to pick the right player for the job. Thankfully, if you are unsure about whom to pick, the game will automatically select your best kicker, taking into settings such as the ball placement in the pitch. You can check out the rating of each of your players by pressing R2/RT. You can also change your positioning with the R stick.
After selecting the right kicker, you will need to select the placement of the kick, its strength, and the effect you wish to add to the ball. To do that, first, you need to use the left stick and place the reticle over the goal, in the place you wish the ball to end up. We advise you to focus, initially, on the side left open by the keeper. After that, you need to press or hold O/B to put the right amount of strength behind the kick, the longer you keep the button pressed the stronger will the kick be. Normally, we advise you to put between 1 and a half and 2 bars of strength behind the kick. Placing it close to the grass allows you to take a low free-kick.
After doing that, the player will start running towards the ball, this is the moment in which you can both make your shot way more deadly by pressing O/B at the right time and put the right spin on the ball, which can be made by making use of the R stick.
How to Add a Little Extra Spice to Your Kicks
In FIFA 22, you can make add various different types of spins. You can check out how to perform all the standard spins below:
- Top Spin: Move the R Stick down and them up.
- Side Spin/Curved Shot: Move the R stick down and then 90 degrees counterclockwise.
- Knuckle Ball: More the R stick down, then up, then down again in quick succession.
- Mixed Spin: move the R stick down and then up while twerking the stick a little.
How to Defend Against Free Kicks in FIFA 22
In order to stop a free kick in FIFA 22, making the barrier jump, which can be made by pressing △ /Y, can sometimes be a key factor, but doing so at the right time is key so make sure to press the button at the right time, so you can time your jumps correctly. Putting a player at the opposing side of the goal is also a great way since he will be able to stop kicks focused on the opposing direction.
