FIFA 19 cover star Cristiano Ronaldo is in the middle of a troubled situation as he faces rape allegations. The five-time Balon d’Or is accused of rape by Kathryn Mayorga in Las Vegas in 2009, which according to him is “fake news.”

As the situation is pretty serious, sponsors are starting to evaluate Ronaldo’s situation. That includes Electronic Arts and EA Sports.

Commenting on the news with Eurogamer, the developer and publisher have stated that they’re waiting to learn more about the matter and are considering the actions required to be taken.

“We have seen the concerning report that details allegations against Cristiano Ronaldo,” EA said. “We are closely monitoring the situation, as we expect cover athletes and ambassadors to conduct themselves in a manner that is consistent with EA’s values.”

In the meantime, EA has removed any material depicting “CR7” from its social networks, although it claims that’s part of marketing strategies.

Nike has issued a similar statement:

“We are deeply concerned by the disturbing allegations and will continue to closely monitor the situation,” the sportswear company told The Associated Press.

On Twitter, Ronaldo himself commented the news .

“I firmly deny the accusations being issued against me. Rape is an abominable crime that goes against everything that I am and believe in.

Keen as I may be to clear my name, I refuse to feed the media spectacle created by people seeking to promote themselves at my expense. My clear conscious will thereby allow me to await with tranquillity the results of any and all investigations.”
