With the new 5.4 patch for Final Fantasy XIV: Shadowbringers, Futures Rewritten, comes an additional Trial that pits you against Emerald Weapon in the Castrum Marinum. Much like the other Weapons available to go up against in the Sorrow of Werlyt quest chain, the Emerald Weapon provides a pretty sturdy challenge both in its Normal and Extreme modes.
Up until this point, we’ve gone up against Ultima, Ruby, and Sapphire Weapons, the latter of the two coming as a result of Sorrow of Werlyt and the former coming as a result of the A Realm Reborn Main Scenario so it was only natural that we were going to face off against the Emerald Weapon eventually.
How to Unlock the Emerald Weapon Trial
To unlock the Emerald Weapon Trial, you’ll first need to complete the first two quests in the Sorrow of Werlyt chain, the last being “Sleep Now in Sapphire”. Once you’ve completed “Sleep Now in Sapphire”, you will be able to start the next quest, “Blood of Emerald”, by going to The Lochs and speaking to the Resistance Officer (X: 11.3, Y:22.5). To queue up for this Trial, you’re going to need to have an item level of at least 485.
Like most Normal mode Trials, if you have a good grasp of everything you’ve come up against to this point, you should be okay taking Castrum Marinum on Normal with random party members without much trouble, provided everyone performs in their roles as they should.

Once you complete the Normal mode, though, as I mentioned earlier, there’s the option of going one step further in the Extreme mode, which is essentially the same trial but at a higher difficulty with different mechanics. You can pick up the next quest in the line in The Lochs by speaking to the Warmachina Fanatic (X:11.5, Y:22.5) and completing “Blood of Emerald”. Your item level should be at least 500 before entering into this Trial. Participating and completing the Extreme mode of this Trial nets you Totem rewards that can be redeemed in Mor Dhona by speaking with C’intana (X22.7, Y:6.7).
