Fantastic Beasts has seen varied reception since its debut as a film franchise. Initially, many audience members were thrilled to see J.K. Rowling’s world from this new perspective. However, the franchise’s second film is a point of contention among viewers. Regardless of whether you love these films unconditionally or view the third installment as a shot at redemption, there is good news! After several months of delays, Warner Bros. Studios has officially announced that Fantastic Beasts 3 will start filming in the Spring of 2020!

Mixed Reception

According to variety.com, production on this third film was expected to start earlier in 2019. However, due to the less-than-stellar reception of Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, production has been pushed back. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, the franchise’s first film, is still a hit, having earned over $800 million at the box office worldwide. The second film in the franchise, the aforementioned Crimes of Grindelwald, ended its box office run at $650 million. According to rottentomatoes.com, viewers feel the second film was uninspired, potentially the worst in the Harry Potter series. Many are worried that the franchise as a whole will fall short. Thus, the making and reception of Fantastic Beasts 3 are critical.

A Critical Juncture

Fantastic Beasts is set to be a five-film franchise, and although the plot and passion show signs of slowing in the second film, there is still hope. The fact that production on the third film was pushed back in light of the second film’s reception is telling. This, without a doubt, means that the team responsible is actively trying to improve the franchise. Maintaining awareness of viewer opinions and reviews is crucial at this stage. Hopefully, Fantastic Beasts 3 will breathe life back into the franchise and pump up the viewers for the final two films.
