It’s Been A While, Where Did Newt’s Adventures Leave Us Last?

It’s hard to believe, but the last Fantastic Beasts movie was over three years ago. To prepare for the upcoming movie, a recap may be in order. In Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, we were treated to a very Dark Lord-esque motif. The movie focused less on the Fantastic Beasts and more on Grindelwald himself, who was gearing up to take over. After escaping transport to London, he schemes to bring an Obscuris named Credence (played by Ezra Miller) under his wing. The raw power of these magical beings is something he believes can be of use to him. Dumbledore reveals to Newt that neither can kill the other due to an Unbreakable Vow made when they were still best friends. In the end, Credence is revealed as a third Dumbledore brother, Aurelius. Grindelwald believes Aurelius, connected to such a powerful family, can kill Dumbledore for him.

Where Will Fantastic Beasts 3 Take Us Next?

The second Fantastic Beasts movie left us with a lot of cliffhangers. The Aurelius reveal was the most obvious. Yet there was also Queenie, who joined Grindelwald’s crusade for the abolition of wizard secrecy so she could be with the Muggle Jacob Kowalski. The Fantastic Beasts 3 trailer was short, to say the least, boasting just below 40 seconds. Aptly named Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore, Jude Law’s Dumbledore is once again asking for trust without answers. We can see that Hogwarts will be directly involved in the movie. And Mads Mikkelsen makes his first appearance for Fantastic Beasts 3 in a crowd escape cut.

Additionally, due to the general information we have about the timeline of the Wizarding World, we have some ideas on where it might go. There is a Global Wizarding War that takes place around the same time as World War 2. And in 1945, both come to an end. This is the point that the infamous duel between Dumbledore and Grindelwald occurs. With that, Grindelwald is defeated and Dumbledore claims the Elder Wand. However, the Fantastic Beasts movies have been known to retcon more than once. We’ll have to wait until Monday for the full trailer and ideas.
