The Legend of Zelda is a series that may technically be about a female character, but it places a male in its lead role. Players typically set off on adventures as Link rather than the titular princess, but fans want that to change. They want to play as Princess Zelda, or have her take her turn as one of the games’ stars for once, and they’ll do just about anything to make that happen.

But Nintendo hasn’t bothered to give Zelda her fair due just yet, so a group of 20 talented modders have taken it upon themselves instead to bring her to life in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild as a playable character.

But this isn’t just any mod. It’s one of the cleanest and most ambitious projects yet, and it looks like it could be 100 percent official. This mod finds Zelda with her own unique character model that can equip hand-designed costumes, weapons, and even emote with fan-recorded voices that sound better than the real thing, if we’re being honest.

From Zelda’s regular costumes to an entirely reworked Gerudo outfit, this conversion is making fans online salivate, and for good reason. It looks and feels real. If you want to see Zelda starring in an upcoming game, you’ll probably want to check out the hour of dazzling mod footage that really drives home how much work these talented folks have put into making it all come together. Nintendo, make sure you’re taking notes.
