Resident Evil VIII (or Resident Evil Village, if you like the wordplay) isn’t arriving until May 7. But thanks to the demo, fans have been busy digging any story hints — as well as modifying the game.

Since the demo isn’t just available for PlayStation and Xbox but on PC too, as you can expect, all hell breaks loose. One modder changed the in-game enemies into a bunch of lifeless-looking Barneys. Meanwhile, another changed Lady Dimitrescu’s face into Thomas the Train Engine. There’s also a mod that lets you play as Cassandra, one of Dimitrescu’s mutant lackeys, even including visible hair and hood covering a small part of your screen.

However, fans have made less jokey, and more practical mods too. Such as Reshade color-correction pack, adding the classic start-up message of “This game contains scenes of explicit violence and gore”, a FOV fix, and PS4 button swap. You can see the list of the currently available PC mods over on the Nexus Mods site.

To drum up the hype for the game, Capcom launched the Resident Evil VIII demo three times. It first landed early for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 users on April 16 lasting until the next day. Then the second wave ran for one day from April 24 to 25. The Xbox Series X, Xbox One, and PC users finally joined in the fun a bit later on April 30. Capcom then extended the demo’s availability period by a week and will be ending it for all platforms on May 9.

Although your playtime is limited to only 60 minutes, the village contained some hidden story cutscenes quick enough to rush through it. You can select quit and continue or replay it as long as it’s within the one-hour limit. But aside from making mods, fans have also found a relatively simple way to remove the 60 minutes timer on the demo over on the Steam forum. You just need to delete some save-related files and use Steam Achievement Manager to remove achievement as well as in-game stats tracking.
