Link, the hero from The Legend of Zelda, is one of the most recognizable figures in gaming. Overwatch is still one of the most popular shooters of all time. Updates with new characters and events keep players interested in the 2016 title. Now, a group of talented fans has shown us what it might be like if those two franchises were to meet. A team of five artists and animators have compiled a highlight reel for the Hero of Hyrule. It includes clips similar to those for the Play of the Game segments that players can choose for all various heroes. The 50-second clip shows Link doing his signature sword spin, opening a loot box for rupees, and blocking bullets before dashing forward. You can watch the full clip below.

Other artists have imagined Link as an Overwatch hero before, though this is the first time he’s been animated. The game was officially revealed to be coming to Nintendo Switch in a recent direct. This likely inspired the team to create an incredible fan trailer. The likelihood that the Switch version would receive an exclusive character is low. But Link does fit well in the game’s animation style. Also, it harkens back to SoulCalibur II where each console’s version had an exclusive character. For the GameCube, Link was the obvious choice there as well.

As others have pointed out, Link’s arsenal and play style are very similar to Brigitte, a healer who carries a shield and mace. There probably wouldn’t be any exclusive characters, but new skins would be relatively easy to pull off. Samus from Metroid would be an excellent swap for Pharah, for example. Just give her a jetpack and the rest is easy. Exclusive content is always a nice touch for older ports. And Nintendo has included some for others such as Diablo III and Skyrim.
