It depends on whether you are a new player or not.
In Fallout 76 there’s a brand new mode that has players fighting it out to become the Overseer of Vault 51. This is done by a battle to the death in the game’s new Nuclear Winter Battle Royale mode. The new mode features a brand new progression system of ranks, unlocks, and perks.
If you are new to Fallout 76 you will need to create a new character by hitting the play button the main menu. Then you will customize your character and leave Vault 76 to save your progress. Once you return to the main menu you will have the option to play Nuclear Winter.
If you’re a returning Fallout 76 player you will be able to just select the game mode from the main menu upon loading up the game. Select Play and then head to the Nuclear Winter tab to play the Fallout 76 Battle Royale mode.
In Nuclear Winter the rules are similar to other Battle Royale game modes. You only have one life and whoever the last team standing is will win the match. By playing matches players will earn Overseer XP and can rank up and earn new content.
