It’s similar to the previous games, but lock levels are a bit different.
In Fallout 76 lock picking is similar to how it was in the last Fallout game when it comes to the mechanics of it. You’re going to use the left stick to rotate a bobby pin and the right stick to rotate a screwdriver. However, the locks have different difficulty levels.
Like the terminal hacking perks, lock picking has three perks as well that can be used to pick three different lock levels. Locks with a 0 level are novice locks and can be attempted to unlock by anyone that has a bobby pin in their inventory. Locks from level 1 to level 3 must have perk cards equipped.
To attempt the lock pick mini-game on a level 1 lock, you will need to have one perk card equipped. For the Level 2 locks, you will need two of the lock picking perk cards. For the level 3 locks you will need to have all three cards equipped. Regardless of the level, you will need to have bobby pins in your inventory to attempt the lock picking game.
To pick a lock in Fallout 76 you will need to rotate the bobby pin around the lock to find the correct position. Once you’ve got a position in place, you can then use the right stick to use the screw driver to try and open the lock. If you’ve got the correct spot for the lock pick, using the right stick will open the lock.
The further that the lock rotates, the closer you are to opening the lock. You can use trial and error with a light touch when using the right stick for your best chance at not breaking your bobby pin and starting again.
