You’ll need them for fast travel and other things in the game.
Bottle Caps are one of the currencies of the world in Fallout games. If you’ve played any of the previous RPGs, caps were used to purchase things in the world. In Fallout 76, getting caps is going to be important because you need them to do things like fast travel and move your camp.
The good news is that caps can still be found all over Appalachia in Fallout 76. Doing things like completing missions, killing enemies, and exploring through the wasteland are activities that will all earn you caps. Sometimes caps will be rewarded at the end of a mission. Killing enemies and then looting their bodies will also often give you caps as well. Caps can also be found just through exploration so make sure to check the environment by looking in drawers, cabinets, and other areas where items might be hidden.
Some areas are better than others when it comes to finding caps in Fallout 76. Super Mutant Camps are a good source for caps as these monstrous enemies usually have plenty of caps on their body as well as throughout their camp. Super Mutants or not, some settlements will also have Cap Stashes to look out for this will usually be a box or container that contains a nice bounty of caps. There’s no exact spot to find them though, you’ll simply need to do some exploring.
Events are constantly going on and completing them will almost always give you caps. The time investment for completing an event might not be worth the amount of caps you get for completing it, if you are only looking to boost your cap count. Just doing regular quests will also earn you caps or cap equivalents that you can sell to vendors. Sometimes you’ll need to make a decision on whether you want to scrap a junk item for its parts or whether you want to sell it. Selling it to a vendor will give you caps.
There a plenty of other places to look for caps. You can get them from Nuka Cola Bottles, on Corpses and Petrified Corpses, in random containers, in trade with other players, from bounties, and from completing quests.
You can then turnaround and use these caps to fast travel on the map. Depending on how far you are looking to travel, the more caps it’s going to cost you. If you want to move your camp, this will also cost you caps.
Stay busy doing activities and you’ll have no problem getting caps in Fallout 76.
