Sony’s love for cross-platform play feature is known to each and every one of us – the firm didn’t accept the proposal of cross-platform play support for some of the biggest games – Minecraft, Rocket League and Fortnite. What is stopping Sony from jumping into the biggest trend in the video game industry right now? Sadly, nobody knows an answer to this query. Recently, John Smedley (who led the online division of the developer and publisher before founding Daybreak Games) stated via Twitter revealed that “the stated reason internally for this (cross-platform gaming) was MONEY”. Sony didn’t like this statement from John Smedley and seems to have asked him to remove it (the tweet is no longer available).

Today, GameStar posted their video game Bethesda’s Todd Howard, Game Director of the upcoming Fallout game, Fallout 76. Howard told GameStar that they wanted to add a cross-platform play feature to Fallout 76, but didn’t receive much of a support from SONY.

The wordings that Todd Howard used to explain the situation of why Fallout 76 won’t have a cross-platform play support will surely go to downgrade your respect towards Sony.

PlayStation group was “not as helpful as everyone would like it. We would love to do that, but right now that’s not possible”.

This shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone because Sony has turned to many such offers in the past as well (as mentioned above) without giving a proper explanation for the same, whereas their main rivals Microsoft and Nintendo have accepted all proposals of cross-platform play that came to their ways.

However, there is a hope that Sony will join the bandwagon soon. In a recent interview with Eurogamer, Sony Interactive Entertainment America’s president Shawn Layden stated that “we’re looking at a lot the possibilities. I’m confident we’ll get to a solution which will be understood and accepted by our gaming community, while at the same time supporting our business.

Let’s keep our finger cross and hope that Sony joins the cross-platform play party soon.
