The phrase “strike while the iron is hot” seems apt to apply to Fall Guy’s approach to staying in the gaming conversation. Not long after becoming the most downloaded PlayStation Plus game in history – that list includes massive hits like Rocket League and The Last of Us Remastered just to reiterate how impressive that is – we now have the next exciting thing to look forward to, in Fall Guys Season 2.
As part of Gamescom 2020’s Opening Night Live, we managed to get a little sneak peek at what’s to come in everyone’s favorite Wipeout-meets-Takeshi’s Castle battle-royale. It seems, going off the trailer above, we’ll be dressing up as medieval staples like dragons, wizards, and knights, as we travel back to the middle ages for ye old battle royale goodness.
Now, it was only a short look at what Fall Guys Season 2 will potentially contain, so there may be much more to enjoy when it drops later in the year around October, but from the looks of things, the new maps and modes look like interesting additions to the Fall Guys rotation. One looks like a medieval twist on an already existing team game, Hoopsie Daisy, but with drawbridge platforms to hurl yourself off.
Probably the most eye-catching new mode is a new race format where you have to scale castle walls to make it to the finish, but the means of climbing them are movable boxes that players can push and pull to help (or more often hinder) people’s progress. This type of gameplay mechanic seems to be the new gimmick in Fall Guys Season 2, as even the drawbridges in the mode mentioned above are moveable. There were a few other modes teased in the trailer, but those two were given the most time to analyze.
As we mentioned before, Fall Guys is one of the hottest properties on the market right now, and we think it deserves to be. Only time will tell what the future holds for Fall Guys, but it’s making the right moves (including having a suitably memey Twitter account) to ensure that this fame isn’t a flash in the pan. In the meantime though, I’ll be seeing you (and cursing heavily) on the start lines.
Fall Guys is currently free on PlayStation Plus until August 31, upon which PUBG and Street Fighter V will take it and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered‘s (what a mouthful) place as Plus’s monthly games for September.
