The Social Media Giant Brings Home Another VR Gaming Studio
The development team over at Downpour Interactive has seen tremendous success with just their first game, the VR shooter Onward. Not only is it still popular in the stores, but it has also become a staple in VR gaming. Now, the team is ready for their next step – joining Facebook and its Oculus Studios family.
The recent partnership commenced when the team saw that most of the game’s success was through the Oculus headsets. By officially acquiring the developer, Facebook will allow the team to utilize their various resources. In addition to the acquisition, Downpour Interactive will maintain all of its staff members and creative passion for Onward and future projects.
Facebook and Downpour Interactive Blog Posts
Both of the parties confirmed the alliance on their respective pages. CEO and Founder of Downpour Interactive Dante Buckley expressed his excitement with a post and a picture of himself. The Vice President of AR/VR Content at Facebook Mike Verdu welcomed the news with his own blog post as well. Of course, there is more to read on their individual posts, so you can click on them if you wish to peruse everything.
Over the past few years, the team has been constantly updating and expanding the VR shooter and its community; accordingly, improvements to the game through patches have given the title a notable reputation for being polished with very few bugs. At the time of this article’s writing, Onward is currently in the top 8 for Top Selling titles on the Oculus Store for Rift and Quest. The other big players right alongside the military shooter include Beat Saber, SUPERHOT VR, BONEWORKS, and Blade & Sorcery.
