After his arrest in Hawaii, actor Ezra Miller may not have a future in the DCEU. Miller was arrested for disorderly conduct at a karaoke bar in Hilo on March 28. The actor reportedly shouted obscenities at people singing karaoke before stealing a microphone from a 23-year-old who was performing. Miller later lunged at a man playing darts. Further reports revealed that Miller subjected another person to “offensively coarse behavior or abusive language which was likely to provoke a violent response and did intend to cause substantial harm or serious inconvenience and/or persisted in disorderly conduct after reasonable warning.” The actor also received a traffic citation for obstructing. Miller has been issued a restraining order from the married couple he was staying with.
Ezra Miller’s Arrest Means Uncertain DC Future
Miller’s arrest future with the DCEU, in which he plays Barry Allen/The Flash, comes into question. According to Collider, a “knowledgeable source” told Rolling Stone magazine, executives from Warner Bros. and DC had an emergency meeting on March 30 in which they agreed to pause any and all of Miller’s future projects. The Flash, Miller’s first standalone film in the DCEU, has been delayed until July of 2023 due to Miller having frequent meltdowns on set. As was the case with Johnny Depp, Warner Bros. has a history of distancing itself from controversial actors, so Miller’s future is tremendously uncertain. This is especially true with Miller facing criminal charges in Hawaii. A hearing is scheduled for April 26.
Ezra Miller is Not the Only Actor in Trouble
Miller is not the only actor dealing with severe consequences for violent behavior. A day after Miller’s arrest, Will Smith slapped Chris Rock at the Oscars, leading to backlash the actor is still facing over a week later. Smith has resigned from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, and some of his future projects are now in limbo or canceled. Hollywood appears to be sending a message that violence will not be tolerated.
