Sony’s State of Play opened with the trailer for Capcom‘s new IP, Exoprimal. The gameplay in the trailer showcases four characters in exosuits fighting off an invasion of dinosaurs in an abandoned city. It may not be a new Dino Crisis, but it does look like a ton of fun. Exoprimal is set to release on PS4 and PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and S, and on Steam in 2023.

Take a look at the Exoprimal debut trailer below.

About Exoprimal

The game takes place in 2040, and the planet is in crisis. Vortexes have begun appearing in the sky, and they are dropping dinosaurs that are laying waste to cities across the globe. The Aibius Corporation has developed a powerful technology to help save humanity. The company’s AI, Leviathan, can forecast where these vortexes will open and deploy a team of Exofighters to the area. With their Exosuits, these fighters are the best and last hope for humanity.

Right off the bat, this premise sounds like a winner. Whoever first coined the phrase “dinosaur forecast” needs a raise.

A Cooperative but Competitive Multiplayer Experience

Exoprimal‘s main multiplayer mode, Dino Survival, has players compete against other squads in 5v5 matches. Teams fight against dinosaurs while racing to complete missions. The list of objectives is dynamic and changes to ensure no two matches are exactly the same. Players have to be on their toes as hunts turn into cargo deliveries or desperate last stands. Opposing teams also have the opportunity to impede each other’s progress directly.

Although Exoprimal is purely multiplayer-focused, a narrative is woven throughout the game. Players can unlock new story threads to dive into the history of this world and its characters. Eventually, players will unravel the mystery behind these dinosaur invasions.

In Exoprimal, Teamwork is Key

Exofighters will always find themselves outnumbered and must work together to survive. To do so, players can make use of several different classes of exosuits. Melee-focused suits like Zephyr and the assault-focused Deadeye excel at clearing enemy swarms. The tank classes like Roadblock and support types like Witchdoctor help keep everyone alive. Each class has its unique skillset and is vital to surviving matches. Players can swap exosuits on the fly to change up playstyles or fill roles in their squad.

The dinosaur hunting action game is slated for release in 2023. Capcom’s Exoprimal will be available for the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and S, and on Steam.
