CD Projekt Red is best known for its wonderful adaptation of the Witcher series of books by Andrzej Sapkowski. The latter one in the series is often touted as one of the best video games ever made.

CD Projekt Red has been pushing boundaries since 2003 when they made their first Witcher game. That trend continued with the series, and CDPR found great success with the later parts of Geralt’s saga. Their first foray into Sci-fi, Cyberpunk 2077, got off to a rocky start due to its nearly unplayable state on most consoles but has since developed into what it was initially envisioned to be.

As CDPR returns back to its roots, working hard on the fourth entry in the beloved Witcher franchise, Jacub Ben, ex-cinematic artist/assistant director at the Polish company, decided to co-found a video game development studio of his own called Dark Passenger.

The new company announced via Twitter that it is hiring for a new video game project. The Dark Passenger website offers a lot more information about what the project is expected to be.

Will the New Game Play Like The Witcher?

While the name of the game has not been announced yet, it is planned to be an online action game based on ninjas in feudal Japan as it is invaded by an unknown enemy. The time and setting closely resemble that of Ghost of  Tsushima; even the Oni mask of the female ninja in the artwork from the company’s website resembles that of Jin Sakai.

Players will take control of different ninjas from different houses fighting for power and control, as well as pushing back the invaders. The said ninja houses are to be seeking certain artifacts that will aid them in their fight, hinting that there might be supernatural elements in the game. And that wouldn’t be too unexpected coming from an ex-CD Projekt Red dev.

How the game will end up playing is purely conjecture at this point. But if it has the narrative and art direction of a game like The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt or even the more recent Cyberpunk 2077, it might be something to keep an eye on.
