Warner Bros. Games Montreal has finally confirmed that the highly anticipated next game in the Batman franchise is in development. The title has been long sought by fans of the franchise, and WB Montreal had remained silent for a long time despite various industry sources suggesting that the game is close to being revealed. Now, we finally have some concrete details about the upcoming Batman universe game, Gotham Knights.

What will the plot be about?

The game will be adopting the Court of Owls storyline from the comics and will take place after the death of Batman. The game appeared to take place after the events of Arkham Knight, but this isn’t the case, according to WB Games Montreal. Bruce Wayne is deceased after an explosion that also destroys the Batcave, and his many protégées will continue his crusade with the help of Alfred, using the Belfry as their base of operations.

What will the gameplay be like?

The game will have multiple playable characters including Robin, Nightwing, Red Hood, and Batgirl. It was earlier rumored that the game will have a shared DC Game Universe, and the announcement of the Suicide Squad game further hints toward the same. However, there is no mention of it as of now. The game will feature both solo and drop-in-drop-out two-player online co-op.

Combat looks fairly similar to the freeflow system of the Batman: Arkham games, although enemies have health bars and numbers pop out to indicate damage dealt. This indicates that Gothan Knights will have some RPG elements.

What platforms will it release on?

The game will release on both current-gen and next-gen consoles. It will release on PC, Xbox One, PS4, Xbox Series X, and PS5.

When will the game release?

Rumors had suggested that the game will be releasing in November 2020, around the time of launch of the two next-gen consoles. However, WB Montreal has confirmed that the game will release in 2021. It might be that the game got delayed due to ongoing pandemic.
