Control’s second piece of DLC, AWE, has finally been unveiled, and there’s a lot to unpack ahead of release. The expansion’s trailer is as mysterious as the base game, and it might have left you with more questions than answers.
That’s where we come in. We’re here to tell you about the plot of Control AWE DLC, what new abilities or Service Weapon form there are, when its release date is, and what platforms it will launch.
When is the release date for Control AWE?
Control’s AWE DLC will arrive on Thursday, August 27. That’s one day shy of the game’s first anniversary.
What platforms is Control AWE being released on?
AWE will be released on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC via the Epic Games Store. Unlike The Foundation DLC, AWE will release simultaneously on all platforms.
Season Pass holders will automatically receive the expansion on August 27. AWE can also be bought separately for $12.99 (£11.99) on all platforms.
What is the plot of Control AWE?
Players will again take on the role of Jesse Faden, the Director of the Federal Bureau of Control. Jesse will explore the Investigations Sector of the Oldest House, the FBC’s Headquarters, following its abrupt closure many years ago. The sector has been off-limits after one particular AWE — Altered World Event – went horribly wrong, and Jesse will have to track a mysterious being who haunts the abandoned area.
The DLC will also see players uncover more about the mystery of Bright Falls. The town was the scene for one prominent AWE involving a writer called Alan Wake, who, as some gamers will know, was a Remedy game launched in 2010. Remedy has confirmed that all of its games are housed in a connected universe, so we will find out how the two titles are linked soon.
What is new in the Control AWE expansion?
It’s unlikely that there will be a new power to learn. The Foundation expansion gave players two new ones to master, and there’s no word on another one being available in AWE.
There is, however, a new Service Weapon form called Surge. This sticky grenade launcher has four explosives that can be remotely detonated and will come in handy for taking out those hordes of Hiss enemies you will encounter.
Players can also locate an Altered Item in the form of an arcade machine to replay certain base game elements. Interacting with the machine will let you replay four campaign boss battles and Control’s beloved Ashtray Maze section.
The machine will let you partake in a Horde mode game type, too, among other secrets, and you can earn a new outfit for Jesse for completing specific tasks within the arcade machine.
