American Idol season 21 will air soon, and here’s all the information about the new season. Since its premiere in June 2002, ABC’s American Idol has earned its place as one of the biggest talent shows today. So, it is not a surprise that there has been uneasiness amongst its loyal fanbase due to the delay in announcing the date for the upcoming season. However, the show is finally set to return for its 21st season on February 18, 2023. While announcing via an Instagram post, the show teased a “history would be made” tagline. If this tagline is anything to go by, then fans of the hit series have so much to anticipate.

Over the years, the show has been very instrumental in ushering some amazing talents into superstardom. Some of these stars include Kelly Clarkson, Jordin Sparks, Fantasia Barrino, Ruben Studdard, Taylor Hicks, Carrie Underwood, and Jennifer Hudson, among its famous alums. Last year, American Idol Season 20 concluded with the emergence of country singer Noah Thompson as the winner. Despite having yet to gain prior performing experience, the 20-year-old construction worker thrilled viewers with every performance. During the show, Noah was diagnosed with COVID-19, but that did not slow him down. Instead, he delivered two of his best performances albeit remotely from his hotel. This and many more made him the deserved winner of American Idol season 20.

Season 21 Is Tagged To Make History

While announcing its 2023 season through the official Instagram page of American Idol, the show shared a throwback video from May 2022. In the video, original judges Randy Jackson and Paula Abdul make a surprise return for the landmark 20th season. The caption read:

The series is yet to clarify what it meant by “making history,” but it is safe to assume that viewers can anticipate a more captivating selection of contestants and inspirational stories. Additionally, fans can expect the return of past show winners and legendary celebrity mentors at some point. There are rumors of introducing new weekly features, but this is yet to be verified.

The Competition’s Format Remains the Same

The show deliberately used the Instagram post to hint at plot twists in the upcoming season to pique viewers’ interests. However, the format for the series will remain unchanged. As the season progresses, contestants will face elimination until the top 24 emerge. Afterward, American Idol puts them into different aspects of competition, including solo performances, celebrity duets, and pairings, which are subject to weekly changes. The goal is to help contestants become flexible performers and quick thinkers. As the season unfolds, contestants will be sent home until 12 remain. These 12 will compete during the live shows, and their performances, alongside viewers’ votes, will determine who makes it to the final. In the end, one will become the American Idol season 21 winner.

American Idol Judges Remain Unchanged

In November 2022, a photo shared on the official Instagram page of the show confirmed that the judges’ lineup of Lionel Richie, Katy Perry, and Luke Bryan remain unchanged for the upcoming season. The picture shows the trio standing together and joined by series host Ryan Seacrest. The current team of judges has been on the show since season 16. The confirmation places this team of judges just behind the original panel of American Idol. The trio of Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson, and Paula Abdul worked together for eight years. A promise of “making history” has been made, and fans can only count down the clock to the opening episode of season 21. Hopefully, the show will live up to expectations at the end of the season.
