The 20 minutes of PlayStation State of Play had 12 different reveals from new gameplay to updates about previously announced games. Sadly, it did not live up to the hype. The show lacked major games and denied several rumors like a new Batman game. At least the show ended with some The Last of Us Part 2 news.

The Last of Us Part 2 will release on February 21st, 2020, which confirms recent rumors. It’s about time since the game was announced back in 2016. A new trailer was shown with a lot was packed into it. The biggest reveal was the appearance of Joel near the end. The trailer was absent on details, as most of this year’s State of Play was, but Ellie really wants to do something dangerous. Her new adventure looks to be fueled by revenge or some type of tragedy in Ellie’s life and Joel won’t let her do it alone.

Now that we got the biggest news out of the way, let’s jump to the beginning and discuss everything else from the show. Humanity, from Enhance Games, will release in 2020. Details are sparse because the trailer just showed a bunch of humans running around in clumps like World War Z zombies.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare got a story trailer that looks like the old CoD campaigns from the original Modern Warfare entries. The trailer highlighted trying to find humanity in war and looks be a deeper experience than recent Call of Duty releases. Along with the trailer, a survival mode for Spec-Ops (a replacement for zombies), was announced to come first on PlayStation.

Next up is an announcement from publisher, Annapurna, who showed their game Wattam. Wattam was announced back in 2015 but went silent since then. The trailer, filled with “lalalalalalas” showed a wacky world and a nose with feet. The game seems to be about making friends with a number of unique creatures. You can have friends in December when this game releases plus it includes co-op.

A beautiful platformer called Arise: A Simple Story by Techland was revealed next. The game features platforming through pretty environments to the sound of peaceful music. One scene had the character jumping across huge sunflowers.

The next few minutes were all about PlayStation VR. There was a montage of games but the biggest reveal was L.A. Noire VR Case Files. This was already released for other VR outlets but is now, literally right now, available for PlayStation. The trailer was serious but a VR L.A. Noire begs for crazy, stupid shenanigans.

To continue the trend of things being released now, the remaster of MediEvil has a demo. It can be played now on the PlayStation store. In other news, Civilization VI is finally coming to PlayStation 4 and an indie game about out partying the devil called Afterparty will release on October 29th.

That’s all of the game announcements but PlayStation had a few more things up their sleeve. A Death Stranding PS4 bundle featuring a handsy PS4 and yellow controller was revealed. The October PlayStation Plus games were also revealed to be MLB The Show 19 and The Last of Us Remastered clearly in anticipation for The Last of Us Part 2.

That’s a wrap. Keep an eye on The Nerd Stash for more specifics regarding the State of Play PlayStation event.
