The big new feature that is coming to Pokémon Sword and Shield is Dynamax and Gigantamax forms for Pokémon. Dynamax is a new ability that allows Pokémon to grow to giant size. Gigantamax does the same thing but also changes the appearance of the Pokémon. Only certain Pokémon are given Gigantamax forms. In contrast, it appears that any Pokémon can have a Dynamax form.

Dynamaxing and Gigantamaxing only last for three moves, yet gives Pokémon a big stats boost. Pokémon gains a unique set of moves while in these forms, with all Gigantamax Pokémon having their own signature move. For instance, Gigantamax Pikachu can use the move called G-Max Volt Crash, which is exclusive to itself.
