Tomonobu Itagaki was once one of the respected developers in gaming with two well respected franchises, but has since gone way downhill. After departing Team Ninja on less than amiable terms, his latest game Devil’s Third received scathing reviews in Japan upon release and now it sounds like Nintendo of America wants this one dead and buried.
Based on the terrible reviews seen overseas, Devil’s Third has had near zero hype over the last year after some initial interest being around beforehand. As a result, there has been little marketing push, meaning that few even knew about the game.
For the ones that did have some interest in Devil’s Third, odds are you were unsuccessful in finding a retail copy in stores upon its release last Friday.
According to a report from Destructoid, Devil’s Third has about as minimal of a physical release as you can get for what was a AAA game. They said that it took visiting a Best Buy and three GameStop stores to find one copy, and upon them checking their systems, not a single Best Buy in the state had a copy and only three GameStop stores in the state had copies for non pre-orders.
For anyone that is interested in getting Devil’s Third, you can always just buy it digitally, so it’s not impossible to get. This still makes you wonder why they didn’t just go a digital only approach though, like they did with the latest Fatal Frame instead.
