In the search for missing Youtube personality Etika, a body has been found in the East River of Manhattan by the New York Police Department.

The NYPD reported that an unidentified body had been recovered from the river and has been confirmed dead at the scene. This was after an emergency call in the early hours of the evening on Monday, June 24 where a body had reportedly been spotted in the river.

The NYPD released the following statement:

Etika, a predominantly Nintendo focused YouTuber whose real name is Desmond Amofah, has been missing since posting a video on June 19 via Youtube about his thoughts that many thought could be alluding to a suicide attempt. It was reported over the weekend that his belongings, including his New York State driver’s license and cellphone, had been found but there was no sign of Etika himself.

“The medical examiner will determine the cause of death, and the investigation is ongoing. Identification of the deceased is pending proper family notification. The medical examiner will confirm identification.”

It is expected that it will take a few days for the police department to confirm further details of the body that was recovered.
