Publisher Headup Games and indie studio XeloGames have announced their upcoming survival platformer experience for the PC with Escape from Naraka. Within this new take on fast-paced gameplay, players must navigate through a labyrinth of terror based on established mythos and lore.

Jump Your Way to Freedom

Escape from Naraka mixes first-person survival action with Balinese mythology. The widowed demon Rangda rules over a complex temple. Only by completing the temple’s trials can you make your escape. Across the haunting platformer sections, you will run into a variety of compelling traps and intrusive enemies. In fact, the developers used 3D scanning technology to authentically replicate the Balinese legends.

In addition to platforming skills to master, more abilities will be acquired to further dominate this “Speedrun in HELL!” There’s bound to be a lot of quick-thinking and last-second flicking, supplying a nice dose of decent replayability. With this in mind, players can strengthen their skills to be on top of the leaderboards to see who is the better speedrunner.

Escape from Naraka Announcement Trailer

Of course, no game announcement is complete without a little teasing. The first trailer for Escape from Naraka features some gameplay footage of the trials to come. In place of any dialogue and sound effects, the trailer is backed with light percussive music and a catchy atmospheric tune that’s both intimidating and exciting. XeloGames claims that classic titles such as DOOM, Dark Deception, and SEUM: Speedrunners from Hell were the main influences for their game’s development. Judging from the trailer below, it surely shows.

XeloGames is a three-person squad of indie developers from Indonesia who have worked on AAA titles in the past. With the publishing arm of Headup Games to propel their development, they are ready to release Escape from Naraka, their first official game. It will be coming to PC via Steam sometime in the third quarter of this year. In the meantime, you can wishlist it here. Furthermore, the Steam Next Fest will be held on June 16th, so we may get to see more gameplay for this upcoming survival platformer.
