Eric Weinberg, co-producer of the NBC sitcom Scrubs, has been convicted on 18 counts of sexual assault after being arrested in July and then again in early October earlier this year; just last week, Weinberg pled ‘not guilty’ for the charges, but is now being sued in two civil lawsuits where women are accusing him of rape.
Eric Weinberg, best known as the writer and producer for Scrubs and Californication, was first arrested on criminal assault charges in July 2022 but was released on a $3.225 million dollar bond. On October 5th, 2022, Weinberg was re-arrested on 18 counts of sexual assault that occurred between 2014 and 2019, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. After his second arrest, Weinberg was held on a $5 million dollar bond which was reportedly revoked, according to The Hollywood Reporter, leading to the producer pleading not guilty at his arraignment on October 25th.
Eric Weinberg Charged With Two Civil Lawsuits
With his arraignment concluded and his criminal hearing scheduled for November 15th, Weinberg is now being faced with two additional lawsuits, in which the plaintiffs – known simply as A.B. and C.D. – accuse Weinberg of luring them into his Los Angeles home on the pretenses of a photo shoot only to violently assault them and film said assault without their consent.
In an excerpt from one of the suits filed against Weinberg, Deadline relays that “Plaintiff C.D. suffered physical, emotional, and economic harm as a result of Weinberg’s assault, and brings this action for sexual assault, sexual battery, sexual harassment, gender violence, assault, battery, intentional infliction of emotional distress, and negligence.”
Micha Star Liberty, the lead attorney for the two women seeking action against Weinberg, has described the ex-Scrubs producer as “a calculated, serial predator” who “caused [the women] immense trauma, mental anguish and physical harm” and states that he “must be held accountable…for his horrifying actions.”
At his bail hearing two weeks ago, Los Angeles County Superior Court judge Victoria Wilson described Weinberg as a “potential serial rapist”, according to an LA Times article on the matter, and arranged for Weinberg to be held in the Twin Towers Correctional Facility rather than in his home where the crimes occurred.
Since the producer’s arrest, the LAPD and LA District Attorney’s office have reportedly received over 70 tips from women that claim they were also lured in and assaulted by Weinberg. Micah Star Liberty has also stated that she is looking into filing additional lawsuits against Weinberg.
