According to Deadline, Emma Stone has officially signed on to a deal to star in the sequel to the movie Cruella. The news outlet then goes on to explain that her deal with Disney “mutually benefits both sides”. The release format of the sequel is also unknown.

Stone signing on for the unnamed Cruella movie sequel is an advantage for Disney and their Disney+ Premier Access model. Cruella was one of the many Disney films to show in theaters along with Disney+ Premier Access. The method was successful in increasing revenue with moviegoers and viewers who prefer to stay home due.

The Possible Accomplishments of a Cruella Sequel

Directed by Craig Gillespie, Cruella premiered on May 28 of this year. Emma Stone stars as the namesake “Cruella” and gives origin to the popular Disney villain Cruella de Vil. Before this film, Cruella de Vil was previously played by Glenn Close in 1996’s 101 Dalmatians and 2000s 102 Dalmations.

Currently, Cruella has earned $226.1 million worldwide. While Disney has not officially released the film’s streaming numbers, Samba TV has estimated that the film brought in $21 million in Disney+ Premier Access. A Disney spokesperson then went on to say,

In early June (about a week after the film’s release) Disney announced that a sequel was in development. Craig Gillespie and (screenwriter) Tony McNamara are returning to the film. It is unknown if costume designer Jenny Beavan and cast members Paul Walter Hauser and Joel Fry are signing on as well.  As of now, there is no release timeline for the film.
