Longtime actress Emma Roberts is set to star as the lead and executively produce a new romantic comedy from Stampede Ventures called Space Cadet. Slated to start production this month, Space Cadet is written and directed by Liz W. Garcia and will be distributed by Prime Video internationally.

What is Space Cadet about?

Space Cadet follows the story of a Florida party girl named Rex(Emma Roberts), who ends up being the last hope for the NASA space program after she finds herself accidentally in training. Rex is not where she’s supposed to be but ends up surrounded by other candidates who are more qualified with better resumes. All the 0ther candidates may look better on paper, but they don’t have the “smarts, heart, and moxie” Rex possesses.

No additional cast has been revealed yet.

The President of Production at Stampede Ventures, Jon Berg, explained why Emma is perfect for the Space Cadet lead.

Berg continued, “The space race continues to intrigue all of us globally, so we have no doubt viewers far and wide will connect with this amazing female-driven narrative.”

Emma Roberts Transformative Career from Childhood to RomComs

Emma Roberts has seemed to find her calling in romantic comedies. Roberts has had an extensive career dating back to her child acting days. Emma Roberts has undoubtedly made a name for herself even with her family’s namesake, but there’s something nostalgic and warming about the 31-year-old following in the steps of her legendary aunt. Julia Roberts’ career blossomed from her roles and romantic comedies, and Emma Roberts is seeming to become an even bigger name when starring in them too.

Believe it or not, a comedy movie wasn’t the first film Emma landed a role in. At ten years old, she landed her first acting role in the crime drama Blow alongside Johnny Depp and Penelope Cruz. After that, Emma Roberts tended to star in comedies. Nickelodeon kids, you could see Emma Roberts in her lead role as the awkward Addie Singer in UNfabulous.

During that time, she also starred in tons of heartwarming and funny movies as a teen in films like Hotel For Dogs, Wild Child, and Aquamarine. In 2013, Emma starred in the rated R comedy. We’re the Millers with Jason Sudeikis and Jennifer Aniston. In 2016, she starred in Nerve alongside Dave Franco and the short-lived Scream Queens, which introduced American Horror Story fans to Emma if they didn’t already know her.

Most recently, Emma Roberts has found her place in romantic comedies. The NY-born actress starred most recently in the Netflix holiday romcom Holidate in 2020 and Little Italy in 2018.

From being known for comedies, romcoms, and thrillers, it’s hard to believe but very well deserved that Emma Roberts is now joining the Sony/Marvel Spiderverse in Madame Web.
